Detailed description of Circling Raven Golf Club

Circling Raven Golf Club is a resort 18-hole golf course located in Worley, Idaho. Owned and operated by the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, Circling Raven is in the scenic Idaho panhandle approximately 55 minutes from Spokane International Airport (GEG).

The Circling Raven golf course first opened for play in 2003. The course was designed by Gene Bates.

The first settlers to meet the Schitsu'umsh Indians of northern Idaho were early 19th-century French fur traders who, impressed by the tribe's acumen, dubbed them "Coeur d'Alene," or "heart of the awl." The tribe is still enterprising, having turned a small bingo operation into a resort destination.

Circling Raven Golf Club, a Gene Bates design opened in August 2003, occupies wilderness so grand that one prospective architect thought the land should be a state park.

Like Lewis and Clark, who passed 100 miles south of here, golfers have the place to themselves, save for the occasional elk or moose.

Circling Raven's par 3s average almost 220 yards. The 13th is 253 yards across a gully, with wetlands right and pines lurking in the back. The 386-yard 8th is short but doesn't lack a "wow" factor, playing downhill to a green framed by birches, poplars, and pines. The Coeur d'Alene resort and its floating green are a half-hour -- and $100 -- north of Circling Raven.

Played with several "locals" who told me it was one of the best courses in the Coeu d'Alene, ID, area. Was veryj enjoyable round & we could make it a destination place because of adjacent casino/resort amenities.

Would travel: 20-30 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Ranks with the best in this price level

Played this course in June and what a treat. We were first off at 9 am as they do early maintenance on Tuesdays. Great practice range that includes a wedge game area where you can hit 65 to 95 yard shots to a real green with 4 pin placements. The course was in prime shape, my only beef is that with a newer course the greens were a bit hard. And, since this is a course where you want to stay below the hole, the hardness of the greens made it a real challenge. The course winds through rolling wheat fields on the front nine and then through trees on the back. Most holes are all by themselves, with no houses or other buildings. I played the Coeur d'Alene (island green) resort course the next day and while it is a fun tract, this course is much better and more challenging. Definitely worth my trip from San Diego and would play this course frequently if I lived near by.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Expensive and worth it, Best course in the area

Love this course. Played on a package then replayed it the following day. The front nine greens are a little tricky in terms of speed and break, the back nine greens easier. The back nine is exceptional -- you feel like you are the only people on the planet as the course winds through lots of beautiful acreage. Definitely a riding course. The only problem is that this course is associated with a casino, so you get some very casual golfers who take their time playing and looking for lost balls. They have added a separate hotel wing and restaurant next to the casino, so you don't have to go into the casino to check in, access your hotel room, or eat. The new accommodations are quite nice.
